Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson feels that the club are not making the most of Christian Benteke's aerial talents.

Benteke, signed from Aston Villa for £32.5m in the summer, was named in the starting eleven against Crystal Palace today by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and played all 90 minutes at Anfield as his team lost 2-1.

Lawrenson feels that the Belgium international is not being properly supplied by Liverpool as diagonal crosses allow defenders a better chance of combating Benteke's threat.

Instead Lawrenson wants to see players hit the byline and pick Benteke out in the penalty box, something he knows would give the striker a much better chance of getting the better of opposing defenders.

"I think it's where the delivery comes from [which is a problem]. Diagonal delivery is no good as you watch where the ball comes from [as a defender]", Lawrenson said on LFC TV.

"If it comes from the side, you are side on to the player and you're never quite sure [as a defender]."

The former Reds defender believes that Benteke is a "beast" when he is attacking the ball and argues Liverpool need to feed him better.

And then they will reap the rewards.

"When he attacks the ball he's a beast.

"I think it [the delivery] can get better and we’d get more goals from him [as a result]."
