Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says that he is fully aware that his side need to score goals, something he claims even his mother and his grandmother are all too aware of.

While Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners over West Brom at Old Trafford yesterday, it was a familiar story for large parts of the game as Van Gaal saw his side dominate possession, but fail to carve open the visitors.

Manchester United fans began to chant 'attack, attack, attack' in the second half, with Jesse Lingard then making the breakthrough for the hosts; victory was completely sealed in the 90th minute when Juan Mata scored from the penalty spot.

Van Gaal understands the fans' frustrations and claims that everyone knows his side have to attack to score goals.

"I know the feeling of the fans. We have to attack better against this defensive organisations, but it is the most difficult way you can play as a team", he was quoted as saying by beIN Sports.

"When you are yelling 'attack, attack, attack' and you attack for 85 minutes, you have to think as a fan, is it alright to yell that.

"They want us to know we have to score. My mother knows that and my grandmother knows that. Goals are always the most important thing", Van Gaal added.

Following their win over West Brom yesterday, Manchester United sit fourth in the Premier League standings with 24 points from their 12 games so far.

The Red Devils are now not next in action until after the international break when Watford provide the opposition at Vicarage Road.
