Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt has decided he wants to join Leeds United on loan.

Leeds head coach Steve Evans swooped to sign Bridcutt last week and wanted to have the former Brighton midfielder through the door before last Tuesday's fixture against Cardiff City.

The deal did not happen and following the entry of further Championship clubs into the race, looked in the balance.

However, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bridcutt has now decided he does want to link up with the Whites.

Evans, who still wants to take the midfielder to Elland Road, is hopeful of completing the loan signing later this week.

Should he succeed, Bridcutt could feature for Leeds in their Friday evening friendly match against Wycombe Wanderers.

Evans said when he arranged the friendly that he was keen to be able to take one or two new faces to Adams Park for the match.

The head coach wants his players to push forward rather than take days off over the international break.
