Leeds United academy boss Paul Hart sees a positive from yesterday's 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town as young striker Malik Wilks further underlined his potential.

Hart watched on as Leeds Under-21s produced a poor first half performance, conceding two goals to Huddersfield as a result and effectively being killed off within 45 minutes.

Leeds improved in the second half and looked dangerous, but were unable to breach the Huddersfield defence.

Wilks was thrown on off the bench in the 65th minute and instantly looked lively, putting himself about the pitch.

Hart was pleased with the young striker's performance, but stressed he still has much to learn as he is just starting out in the game.

"He is lively. He's very strong and at Watford for instance he played the whole game I think and did extremely well", Hart told LUTV.

"So he's learning – and he's got a lot to learn. He's not the finished article by any means.

"But he did very well."

Wilks, who has featured regularly for Leeds at Under-18 level, will hope to have put himself in the mix for further outings for the club's Under-21s.

Leeds Under-21s do not have to wait long for their next game with a cup tie away at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United on the agenda for Thursday night.
