Enner Valencia feels the injury suffered by his West Ham United team-mate Dimitri Payet is “very unfortunate” for the club.

Payet, who joined the Hammers from Marseille in the summer, has been the driving force behind the Upton Park outfit’s bright start to the season.

The 28-year-old managed to score five goals and provide four assists in 14 appearances in all competitions for West Ham before picking up an ankle injury against Everton just before the international break.

As a result, the creative midfielder has been ruled out of action for up to three months; and Valencia, who is himself sidelined with an injury, admitted that losing Payet is a blow for his side.

“Dimitri has been having a spectacular season so far, he has been one of the best players in the Premier League”, Valencia explained to his club’s official site.

“His injury is a very unfortunate thing to happen. We all wish him the best and hope he gets back as soon as possible.

“I haven’t had the chance to play so much this season, but Dimitri has played every game and he’s been the main man.”

West Ham, who have managed to defeat big clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea this season, are currently sixth in the Premier League with 21 points from 12 games.

Slaven Bilic’s side will next face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
