Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that he and his players enjoy the trust of the club’s owner and board and is confident of turning things around soon.

The Premier League champions have looked a shadow of their former selves this season and are languishing in 16th in the league table, with only eleven points from their opening 12 games.

While speculation surrounding Mourinho’s future at the club has raged on for weeks, the Chelsea board have decided against sacking the three-time Premier League winning manager and the Portuguese is confident that he still has their confidence.

The Chelsea boss insisted that no board would provide a new contract to their manager and several of their players if they don’t have trust in them and reminded everyone that this team lifted the title a few months ago.

Mourinho said in a press conference: “We were champions four months ago, not four years ago or ten years ago

“The manager is the same, the players are the same.

"Nobody gives a new contract to the manager four months ago and new contracts to several players, if they don’t have trust.”

Mourinho admits that he and his players are responsible for paying the board back for their trust with results and he is confident that they are on the cusp of turning things around this season.

“The power is with the owner and the board, but they trust us. It is up to us to give them good results.

“We are working and fighting together and I believe the good moment will arrive.”
