Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes the Red Devils can win the league, following their 2-1 win away at Watford, but has admitted that he is still not convinced about the team.

A late own goal from Troy Deeney helped Manchester United to record a crucial away win over Watford earlier today at Vicarage Road, which helped them to go top of the league, only to be later dislodged by Leicester City.

Memphis Depay marked his return to the team with a goal early in the game and the visitors looked comfortable until Marcos Rojo fouled Odion Ighalo, which earned Watford a penalty. Deeney converted the spot kick, with just minutes left on the clock.

Louis van Gaal’s men rallied and mounted pressure on the home side’s defence in stoppage time to clinch victory, when Deeney scored again, but at the wrong end.

The scrappy win kept the Red Devils in the title hunt early in the season and Scholes does feel that they can go on to lift the Premier League at the end of the campaign.

However, he also conceded that he remains unconvinced about his former side’s quality. The former midfielder did add that if they can add a few players in January, they can get better during the second half of the season.

Scholes said on BT Sport: “I think they can win the league.

“But I don’t think I have seen a performance yet that convinced me and I thought, ‘wow that team is brilliant and can go on to win the league’.

“I don’t think that has happened yet. I am sure United can get better if they add a couple of players in January.

“I think they can win it, but I am not totally convinced.”

Manchester United will take an away trip to take on an in form Leicester City next weekend for their next Premier League commitment.
