Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has dubbed West Ham United a mid-table team and told the Hammers they should forget about dreaming of a top four finish.

West Ham slipped to a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane earlier today, something which continues a poor run of form for Slaven Bilic's men.

The Hammers have now lost two of their last three league games, a far cry from their bright start to the season which saw wins over Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool away from home and a home victory against champions Chelsea.

Bilic's men were dreaming of opening the Olympic Stadium next season with Champions League football, but Redknapp feels the Hammers must adjust to being a mid-table team.

"I think they have been punching above their weight. They have had incredible results so far; if you're a West Ham fan you're in dreamland, you've beaten Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City away", Redknapp said on Sky Sports Super Sunday.

"To a certain extent it's become a bit unrealistic expectations – they are never going to become a top four club at the moment.

"The most important thing for me was then making sure they are going to be in the Premier League in the Olympic Stadium, they are going to do that no doubt.

"I think they've done a great job and Slaven Bilic has got them playing good football. But I think they are a mid-table team, I don't think we should get too excited and think they can get into the top four", he added.

Next up for West Ham is a visit from Tony Pulis' West Brom side next weekend, before they then travel to Manchester United for their first game in December.
