Former Manchester United and PSV Eindhoven striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has warned the Dutch side ahead of their visit to Old Trafford.

PSV face Group B leaders Manchester United on the fifth matchday of Champions League group stage.

Van Nistelrooy, who is the assistant manager of the Dutch national side, has hailed Old Trafford as a ‘football temple’ and has warned PSV to avoid getting intimidated by the atmosphere.

The Rood-witten beat Manchester United 2-1 at the Philips Stadion in the reverse fixture, with Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh getting on the scoresheet. Former PSV starlet Memphis Depay had opened the scoring for the Red Devils.

All four teams from Group B stand a chance of progressing to the knockout round of the tournament and the Red Devils will be looking to maintain their position at the top.

Van Nistelrooy spent five years with the Old Trafford outfit following his transfer from PSV in 2001.

Speaking in an interview with Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the Dutchman has urged the Rood-witten to try and maintain a healthy mix between putting in a top performance and enjoying the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

“When you're there [at Old Trafford] you get intimidated”, he said.

“It's a football temple with 76,000 people and an atmosphere that makes you feel it's against you. That plays a part and you have to combat it.

“On the one hand you need to enjoy it, but on the other hand you need to make sure you put in a top performance.

“The mix is quite difficult.”

PSV face bottom placed CSKA Moscow in their last group game, but will be desperate for a result to avoid potentially exiting the competition.
