Former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has posted a cryptic message ahead of the Whites' home Championship game against Middlesbrough this evening.

It has been claimed that the Football League was forced to take out a legal injunction against Leeds to force the Whites to play Middlesbrough after the club's owner Massimo Cellino continued his battle against what he sees as an unfair television deal.

Yesterday it was reported that Leeds have started legal action in a bid to take apart the Football League's £100m-a-year contract with Sky. However, the Yorkshire giants later denied that.

And in the midst of the atmosphere of intrigue, Salerno, who used to work as sporting director at Leeds until he moved to Watford, has posted a cryptic message.

He posted a photograph of Leeds and Middlesbrough's badges and wrote: "Maybe!"

Salerno's message could have referred to him considering attending the match or musing over a potential Leeds win. He may have also been expressing concern at whether the game will go ahead.

The Whites go into the match against Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough as underdogs, but hopeful of springing a surprise as they work towards manager Steve Evans' target of breaking into the top ten.

Middlesbrough meanwhile are chasing promotion to the Premier League and currently sit second in the Championship standings.
