Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are interested in the services of Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes and have already contacted the Spaniard over a potential move in the summer, it has been claimed.

The 34-year-old is currently on loan with Belgian outfit Standard Liege from Manchester United until the summer.

According to Spanish daily AS, Valdes could move to the Estadio Jose Alvalade in the summer following the expiration of his contract with the Red Devils, and the Leoes are looking to sign the Spaniard as a replacement for Rui Patricio, who it is reported will be sold in the summer to the club prepared to shell out the maximum fee for him.

The former Barcelona shot-stopper had fallen out with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal after the 34-year-old allegedly refused to participate in an Under-21s game.

Van Gaal dropped Valdes from the first team and the Spaniard was sent into exile at Old Trafford.

Valdes would not be the first high profile Spanish goalkeeper to move to a Primeira Liga outfit, after Iker Casillas signed for FC Porto in the summer.

Sporting Lisbon currently lead the league table and are three points ahead of second placed Benfica.

Jorge Jesus’ side should be able to guarantee Valdes Champions League football.
