Guus Hiddink thinks the away goal Chelsea secured this evening in their 2-1 Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain is important for the Blues.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic put PSG 1-0 up in the 39th minute at the Parc des Princes, but John Obi Mikel equalised on the stroke of half time.

However, PSG were dominant in the second half and scored again through Edinson Cavani, ensuring that they hold an advantage in the round of 16 tie.

Hiddink though thinks with the second leg coming at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea having secured an away goal could prove to be key.

The Dutchman said on BT Sport: "The result is negative but on the other hand an away goal is important.

"It hurt a bit because the team were playing decently against a team with capacity to play. But we are still in the race."

The Dutchman reflected on his side's attacking play, admitting that when the crunch came they were not clinical enough.

However, in general, Hiddink is happy with what his side produced at the Parc des Princes and has written off the importance of the defeat given the close nature of the scoreline.

"We were not lethal enough at times but otherwise we can be relatively happy", Hiddink explained.

"We didn't moan a lot about the absence of players and the rest got the confidence and did what they were asked.

"Over two legs, it is important you have the away goal. If we can do it at Stamford Bridge then a defeat doesn't count so much."
