Steve Evans has poured praise on the Leeds United fans for the support which they offered during the club’s goalless draw with Middlesbrough at Elland Road last night.
The Whites have been grabbing the headlines for the wrong reasons recently, with the supporters unhappy with owner Massimo Cellino’s ways of operating.
The Italian came in for heavy criticism from the Leeds fans last week for his failure to sign enough players during the January transfer window, in addition to him trying to break the Football League’s £100m television deal; some supporters protested at Cellino by beaming a message calling for him to leave onto one of the Elland Road stands last night.
But Evans urged the fans before the match to show unity and stand behind the club for their vital clash with second-placed Middlesbrough.
And the 53-year-old, who felt the Elland Road faithful responded to his call, thanked the fans for creating a great atmosphere against Boro.

“I’m immensely proud of the supporters and the atmosphere”, Evans said on LUTV after the game.
“Certainly from my point of view this has been the loudest here.
“We have beaten the likes of Hull here, we’ve beaten others.
“Today I asked for unity in terms of focus on the game, focus on what’s happening on the grass, get right behind the boys.
"I feel pleased with the Leeds United supporters that they’ve done that tonight.”
