Burnley midfielder Joey Barton says that he would have not wanted the "nonsense" that would have come with a move to Leeds United, while insisting that despite Neil Redfearn's comments he was not contacted by the Whites over a move last summer.
The 50-year-old was sacked by Leeds United in May last year, and he revealed earlier this week that he had big plans to sign a few players in the summer to help the club to challenge for promotion this season.
Former Manchester City midfielder Barton was one of the players Redfearn named that he wanted to sign and also said that the prospective signings were also contacted through various sources.
However, Barton insisted that neither he nor any of his close associates were contacted by Redfearn directly over a move to Leeds United before the summer transfer window.
He also added that despite the stature of Leeds United he would not have joined the club as they lack stability and he was not keen to waste his energy dealing with all the nonsense at Elland Road.

The veteran midfielder took to Twitter and wrote: “Not calling Neil a liar but he never spoke directly to me. Or anyone close to me to the best of my knowledge.
“Leeds is a huge club and of course if they had stability off the field, It could have been of interest last year.
“But with current issues away from the field, I couldn't afford to join a club and waste energy on nonsense.
“Wish Leeds United and Neil all the best in the future. Hope that clears it up.”
Barton joined Burnley on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers last summer and has made 23 Championship appearances thus far this season.
