Leeds United legend Eddie Gray expects Steve Evans to adopt a defensive strategy against Watford on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Evans’ men are odds on favourites to lose to Watford at Vicarage Road and exit the FA Cup tomorrow, but the Leeds boss has been keen to talk up his side’s chances of causing an upset.

Despite being 16th in the Championship, the Scot has always stressed the importance of playing good football, with an attacking mindset and his teams have often come up short against sides who sit back against Leeds.

But Leeds legend Gray feels Saturday might be different as the Whites are not expected to go on the attack against a more accomplished Watford side, who are ninth in the Premier League.

The 68-year-old is predicting a more conservative Leeds formation, with just one striker up front, as the club will look to stop an impressive Watford forward line, consisting of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

The Leeds legend, previewing the match, said on LUTV: “I know Steve said that we can’t go gung ho.

“He may change the formation, play five in the middle and play one up front.”

While Leeds have conceded just once in the FA Cup this season, they have let in 34 goals in 31 Championship games.
