Leeds United head coach Steve Evans believes Watford captain Troy Deeney has been one of the stars of the Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old striker has been one of the performers of the season for Watford with his inspirational leadership, on and off the pitch, and has also chipped in with some crucial goals, which has seen the Hornets rise up to ninth in the Premier League.

With eight league goals in 26 appearances this season, Deeney has helped Watford confound the naysayers, who predicted at the start of the season that the club would battle for survival in the top tier.

Evans, whose Leeds side face Watford in the FA Cup tomorrow, is a big fan of the forward and feels Deeney has done well to take last season’s Championship form to the top tier this term.

And the Leeds boss believes the Englishman, who he feels has been one of the players of the season in the Premier League, is only getting better with each passing day.

The Scot said in a press conference yesterday: “I think the boy Troy Deeney is one of the stars in the Premier League, he has earned that right.

“For me he was one player who made a difference to Watford every week in the Championship last season and it didn’t matter whether they played [Odion] Ighalo with him, who is very special, or the boy [Matej] Vydra.

“I have watched Watford three times live this season, and every time I have come away thinking, Deeney is just getting better and better.”

Evans will hope to see his side keep a check on Deeney tomorrow when they take on Watford in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Vicarage Road.
