Rangers defender Danny Wilson claims that he will not change his style of play when he steps foot onto Queen of the South's plastic pitch on Sunday, despite manager Mark Warburton having fiercely criticised the use of such surfaces.

Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn picked up an injury on a plastic pitch in a 2-1 midweek Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock and may well miss the rest of the season as a result.

Warburton insists that Waghorn's injury would not have been as severe on a grass pitch and has called for plastic pitches to be banned in the Scottish top flight.

Queen of the South's pitch will be the third plastic pitch on which Rangers have played in succession, but Wilson says their style of play will not change.

"I don’t think you can [change your style of play] because it will alter the way you play and if you start altering the way you run and things like that you are going to pick up more injuries regardless anyway", he was quoted as saying by his club's site.

"I think it’s one of those things, we’ve played a lot of games on plastic so far this season, we’ve not got too many more, and we’ve picked up positive results in the main on the plastic pitches.

"We’ve got another one on Sunday and we’ll go for another positive result again", the former Liverpool defender added.

Warburton will be keen for his men to come through their test at Palmerston without picking up more injuries as Rangers head into a period of the season which will be crucial to their bid to secure promotion back to the top flight for next term.
