Rangers assistant manager David Weir has hailed striker Kenny Miller after the 36-year-old’s wonder strike helped the Gers record a 1-0 win over Queen of the South on Sunday.

The striker came on as a second half substitute for Nicky Clark and within three minutes of his introduction helped Mark Warburton’s side break the deadlock.

Miller produced an exquisite bit of skill to volley the ball from outside the box into the top corner, which left Doonhammers goalkeeper Jim Atkinson rooted to his spot.

The goal was Miller’s 13th of this season and he has also chipped in with seven assists in 29 games in all competitions.

Weir revealed that despite being on the wrong side of his thirties, Miller still displays the same energy and enthusiasm that he has always had.

The 45-year-old praised the striker’s commitment in training and highlighted that it was a massive asset for the club.

Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, Weir said: “Kenny has been fantastic, and he still has that same energy and that same enthusiasm for the game that he has always had, and the quality of his goal speaks for itself.

“Day-in and day-out in training, even the day after the game, he is still full of those qualities, and that’s a massive asset for our football club.

“He just keeps doing it, so we just have to manage him to make sure he can do that for a long time to come.”

St Mirren travel to Ibrox on Saturday and Warburton’s side will be hoping to secure a win to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the Scottish Championship.
