Liverpool have confirmed that midfielder Kevin Stewart has signed a new contract with the club to commit his future to the Anfield outfit.

The 22-year-old made his debut for the Reds in the FA Cup third round clash against Exeter City on 8th January 2016, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Stewart, a Tottenham Hotspur youth product, also made his Premier League debut earlier this month in the 6-0 rout of Aston Villa on 14th February.

The 22-year-old spent loan spells with Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and Swindon Town, before impressing Jurgen Klopp in training, who handed the midfielder his debut.

Stewart had made five appearances for the Reds this season, before an ankle injury picked up in training curtailed his involvement.

The Tottenham Hotspur youth product has revealed that the contract extension gives him confidence that the club believe in him and see him as a player with the potential to have a good future at Anfield.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Stewart said: "It gives me more confidence, it shows [the club] believes in me and believe that I could go on to become a good player for them.

"It has just given me confidence in myself and the security [I have] time to prove myself and get better with good coaches and good players."

The Reds signed Stewart from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014 and his old deal was set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, however, the 22-year-old has committed his long term future to the club by signing a contract.
