James Milner has insisted that he can see Liverpool winning trophies, with the Reds set to take on his former club Manchester City in the League Cup final on Sunday.

The England international, who helped the Citizens to win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and a League Cup to put an end to their long trophy drought, joined Liverpool in the summer after spending five successful seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

Milner now has the chance to win a trophy in his first year at Liverpool, whose last piece of silverware also came in the form of the League Cup in 2012.

And the 30-year-old, who is confident about the Merseyside giants wining trophies over the coming years, explained that he wants to be part of a successful Liverpool team.

"I am coming to the part of my career where I want to play more football", he told the club’s official site.

"I was fortunate enough to win everything at City. They hadn’t won anything for such a long time.

“I wanted to go there and help them achieve success and we managed to do that.

"Liverpool has had such an amazing history but I would like to be a part of winning trophies here. I can see that happening."

Milner, whose side will face Augsburg in a Europa League Round of 32 return leg clash at Anfield tonight, has thus far made 30 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring five times and providing six assists.
