Per Mertesacker has insisted that Arsenal will take confidence from their FA Cup win at Manchester United last season, ahead of his side’s trip to Old Trafford for a Premier League fixture on Sunday.
The Gunners, who lost 2-0 to Barcelona in a Champions League Round of 16 first leg clash at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, thrashed Manchester United 3-0 in the corresponding Premier League fixture in October.
Arsenal will now look to record a memorable double over their old foes when they travel to Manchester at the weekend.
And Mertesacker, who admitted that it was a “great experience” to beat Manchester United in their backyard last season, also wants his side to take the positives from their defeat against Barcelona to the Theatre of Dreams.
“It helps we beat United last year in the cup”, the German told the club’s official site.

“I think that was a great experience for us and it is still in our heads sometime when you think about big games and Old Trafford.
“It is going to be an interesting game so let’s not forget the positives from Barcelona and go there and give our best with the same effort.”
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League with 51 points from 26 games, just two adrift of leaders Leicester City, while Manchester United are 10 points and two places adrift of the north London outfit.
