West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet admits that he is enjoying the responsibility of being the creative hub of Slaven Bilic’s side.

The French attacker has been one of the signings of the season for the Premier League, and the Hammers have enjoyed the fruits of plucking him out from Marseille last summer.

The 28-year-old is already a talismanic figure in Bilic’s impressive West Ham squad, and is considered the top man in the current Hammers line-up because of his ability to create and score goals for them.

The Frenchman insisted that the responsibility of being the top man at West Ham has not bogged him down, but on the contrary he is enjoying the responsibility of carrying the team.

He admits that West Ham’s form dipped when he was out injured towards the end of last year, but he also pointed out that he was not the only attacker who was sidelined during that period.

When asked whether he feels any pressure at being the top man at West Ham, the Frenchman told the club’s official website: “I would say it is the opposite. I have enjoyed the responsibility and feel that it motivates me.

“It helps me to perform consistently. When I was injured the team did suffer but many other attacking players were missing as well.

“Now we have got everyone fit again we are back on track.”

Payet has clocked up 26 appearances for the Hammers this season, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists for his team-mates.
