Udinese midfielder Emil Hallfredsson has revealed his admiration for legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and his belief in young players from the academy.

The Scot retired from management after guiding Manchester United to their 20th league title at the end of the 2013/14 season and remains the most decorated manager of the British game.

Joining the Mancunian giants in 1986 from Aberdeen, he transformed the club’s fortunes both on and off the pitch and still has an influential voice inside the Old Trafford outfit’s board.

Udinese midfielder Hallfredsson is a fan of the legendary Scot and admits that he has never been coached in his life by a personality like him. He also added that Ferguson’s belief in youth and homegrown talents is an example for every manager in the world.

The 31-year-old told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport: “I don’t think I’ve ever been coached by someone with his personality.

“He is a star and I love that he admits his primary goal was to bring youth players through to the first team. Everyone should be like that.”

The Iceland international also shares Ferguson’s love of fine wine, and wants to gift him a bottle if he ever gets a chance to meet the former Manchester United manager in person.

“If I were to meet Ferguson I would give him La Poja, which is a red wine by Allegrini. I am convinced he would like it.”
