Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has bemoaned a bad night at the office for his side after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat away against West Ham this evening.

West Ham quickly set about taking control at Upton Park as Spurs found themselves pegged back. And in the seventh minute the Hammers pulled ahead.

Michail Antonio lost his marker in the Spurs box and powered a header at goal, which Hugo Lloris got a hand to, but could not keep out.

West Ham were dominant and Lloris had to be at his best to keep out a long range effort from Mark Noble just ten minutes later.

The Hammers could not score again in the first half, but headed in at the break as the team well on top.

Spurs tried to respond in the second half, but were below par throughout the evening and the Hammers saw out the game to claim a 1-0 win.

Pochettino feels his side were just below par, while West Ham flourished in the wet conditions which did not suit the way Spurs like to play.

"I think that we didn’t start the game in a good way. We made some mistakes and the team didn’t feel free to play the way they play", he told the BBC.

"West Ham is a strong, physical team which made it difficult and the conditions favoured them because the pitch wasn’t good."

Now the Argentine boss wants to see his side bounce back against Arsenal at the weekend.

"We need to be positive and it is important to be ready for Saturday.

"When you lose you can blame that the players are tired or whatever but the reality is that it was just a bad night for us to play the way we play tonight.

"The players are sad and it is true that we are very motivated and excited to stay towards the top of the table. I feel proud of them as the effort was fantastic."
