Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is of the opinion that derby games against West Ham United and Arsenal mean more than just three points to the winners.

Spurs, who are currently second in the Premier League table, will face the Hammers at Upton Park tonight before welcoming the Gunners to White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Coming out with positive results from the upcoming two London derbies is vitally important for Pochettino’s team as they aim to win their first league title since the 1960/61 season.

And the Argentine, who knows claiming the full points from this week’s games is essential for Tottenham, however, insisted that derbies mean a lot more than just bagging three points, with the manager going on to explain that the emotion of the supporters is special on such occasions.

“The wins are important, the three points at the end on the table means three points, but I think the games like tomorrow [today] and Arsenal mean more than only three points”, Pochettino told Spurs TV.

“The emotions of the derbies for our supporters are very special, for us too, because we feel the same way as them. That is why the games mean more than three points.

“But it is true that we need to show we are better and it will be very tough.”

Tottenham, who drew 1-1 with Arsenal in the corresponding fixture at the Emirates Stadium in November, thrashed West Ham 4-1 in the following game at White Hart Lane.
