Liverpool legend Ronnie Whelan has admitted that he did not expect the Reds to thrash Manchester City 3-0 in the Premier League last night.
Jurgen Klopp’s team, who were beaten by Manchester City in the League Cup final on penalties at the weekend, exacted sweet revenge, courtesy of goals from Adam Lallana, James Milner and Roberto Firmino.
The Citizens never really got going at Anfield as the loss seriously dented their Premier League title hopes.
And Whelan, who felt Manchester City fielded a stronger team in the Premier League encounter than they did in the cup final, lauded Liverpool for keeping Manuel Pellegrini’s team in check for the entire game.
“I wasn’t [expecting this result], especially after seeing City’s team”, he said on LFC TV after the game.
