Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton thinks Jurgen Klopp’s training regime is paying dividends, following the Reds’ energetic performance in the 3-0 win over Manchester City in a Premier League game on Wednesday.
The Merseyside giants headed into the game at Anfield on the back of a marathon League Cup final against the same opponents just three days earlier.
The clash at Wembley lasted over two hours, with the Citizens winning the game via penalties after the match ended 1-1 in extra-time.
Although Liverpool managed to put in a spirited performance in the next meeting between the two teams, the Manchester City players were visibly jaded and tired.
And Houghton feels the difference in the energy levels between the two sets of players prove that Klopp’s training methods are having a positive effect on Liverpool.

“The energy that the players showed [was phenomenal]”, he said on LFC TV’s preview show.
“None of them looked jaded or tired from the game on Sunday, while you look at the Manchester City players, they could hardly gallop around the pitch.
“So the training regime under Jurgen Klopp seems to be working.”
Liverpool, who are currently eighth in the Premier League, will next face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tomorrow.
