Christian Benteke has revealed that he never thought about leaving Liverpool during the winter transfer window, despite falling out of favour with Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian international, who was signed by Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers from Aston Villa in the summer for a whooping £32.5m, has been claimed not to be suited to the German’s playing style.

As a result, Benteke has been relegated to the bench in recent games, but the 25-year-old played a key role in helping 10-man Liverpool down Crystal Palace 2-1 yesterday.

The striker, who came on as a 80th minute substitute in place of his compatriot Divock Origi at Selhurst Park, won a penalty in injury time before converting it to hand his side a vital win.

And Benteke insisted that he wants to fight for his place at Anfield and hence did not think about quitting the Merseyside giants for the cash-rich Chinese Super League in January.

“Offer from China? I never thought about a transfer”, he was quoted as saying by Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

“I didn’t want to leave. I still have ambition and I don’t give up easily. I fight until the end.

“It's in the most difficult situations that the real warriors, the tough men stand up."

Benteke, whose present deal with Liverpool runs until 2020, has thus far scored eight goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Reds.
