Rangers head of recruitment Frank McParland has insisted that Accrington Stanley pair Matt Crooks and Josh Windass are not arriving at Ibrox in the summer to walk into the first team and will have to work to impress boss Mark Warburton.
The midfield pair signed pre-contractual agreements with Rangers in the winter transfer window and will land in Scotland in the summer when their contracts with the League Two side expire.
But McParland insists the duo have very much been signed as squad players rather than starters and the ball will be in their court to show what they can do.
The 56-year-old said on Rangers TV: "January is probably the worst window. In the summer players are out of contract and it's much easier to do business.
"But we are quite pleased. We obviously did the two young boys from Accrington who are, I must stress, young boys, and are going to come here as squad players", McParland continued.

"It will be up to them to see how they progress."
Crooks and Windass are likely to join a side back in the Scottish top flight as at present Rangers sit 12 points clear at the summit of the Scottish Championship.
The Gers are also through to the final of the Challenge Cup, while on Sunday they were drawn to face Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, renewing their fierce rivalry with the Bhoys.
