League Two side Coventry City have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sell young midfielder Charlie McCann to Manchester United.

The Sky Blues will be receiving an undisclosed fee for the 15-year-old, in spite of academy manager Richard Stevens admitting that his club were not in need of any money and were somewhat reluctant to sell.

With a club of Manchester United's stature approaching with an offer, Stevens revealed that there was no option left but to allow the player to go.

"When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience", Stevens told his club's official website.

"We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved."

McCann was called up by the England Under-16 team earlier in the summer, while also making his mark with the club where he played with Coventry's academy.

"He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August."

The manager was vocal in voicing his and his team's support for the starlet with regards to his future at Manchester United.

"Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the academy."

McCann has been with his home town club since the age of seven, becoming an integral part of their academy, and he will now be looking to kick on at Old Trafford.
