Brendan Rodgers wants Celtic to aim to do more than simply be delighted at making the group stage of the Champions League, as he aims to put the Bhoys in a position where they can truly compete at Europe's top table.

Rodgers guided Celtic through to the group stage last season and they have repeated the trick this term, being put in Group B, alongside Bayern Munich, Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain.

Celtic were taught a lesson on Tuesday night when PSG won 5-0 at Parkhead and Rodgers is keen for his men to learn from the experience.

Scottish clubs are some way behind the elite financially, but Rodgers does not want Celtic reaching the group stage to be celebrated, as he seeks to set the club's sights higher.

"It's a mentality for me. For Celtic to qualify for the Champions League, it's huge in many ways", Rodgers was quoted as saying by STV.

"But that can't be seen just to be the success. I want us to go into the Champions League and impose our way of playing and our way of working.

"I know it's a million miles away, financially, from where other teams are at but it should still allow us to compete.

"Of course it will take some time to get that mentality across but it shouldn't just be a celebration, us qualifying.

"We know how huge it is for everyone, we know what it is for the nation to have that representation but that just can't be it. And it won't be, and we'll learn from it", the Celtic manager added.

Celtic's next Champions League fixture is a trip to Belgium to play Anderlecht towards the end of the month, before they then have two games against Bayern Munich in October.
