Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has backed his team-mate Romelu Lukaku to shake off his barren run of form and get back amongst the goals for the Red Devils, sooner rather than later.

Lukaku has struggled to hit the ground running at Old Trafford so far this season and is currently on a nine-game goal drought across all competitions since he last scored against Watford at Vicarage Road last month.

The Belgian has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism for his dire form in front of goal, but continues to have the support of his manager and team-mates, who believe he can turn things around.

Lukaku was dropped to the bench for the Red Devils’ game against his former club Everton on Sunday and came on in the 65th minute as Mourinho’s men held on for a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

Matic, who played the entirety of the game against Everton, backed Lukaku to get back amongst the goals sooner rather than later by insisting that his form does not ring any alarm bells since he is a fantastic player.

“He is a great player for sure”, Matic told his club's official site.

“He has scored a lot of goals for United so I don’t see any problems for him”, he added.

Manchester United will next face high-flying Bournemouth away from home on Saturday in the Premier League before their trip to face Juventus during midweek in the Champions League.
