Former Leeds United captain Stephen Warnock has admitted that Marcelo Bielsa is doing a tremendous job with helping his players to cope with expectations, but revealed that he is not sure if the Whites’ squad is strong enough for promotion.

Bielsa’s men rescued a point in controversial style towards the end of the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at Elland Road last Saturday to remain firmly in the Championship promotion hunt.

The Whites are being touted as one of the candidates capable of clinching promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season courtesy of their bright start under Bielsa.

Leeds have become both tactically and physically stronger under the tutelage of the Argentine tactician while also playing an attractive brand of football this term.

Warnock, who captained Leeds during his spell at the Elland Road, admitted that Bielsa is doing an exceptional job in keeping the players grounded amidst the expectations, but revealed that he is still not sure if the Whites are strong enough to go up from the Championship.

“It’s a brilliant club that is so well supported both home and away”, Warnock told Latics Listen ahead of Leeds United’s trip to face Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

“There is an expectation that comes with playing for the club, and that can often weigh heavy on the players which I guess is just natural when you’re talking about expectation.

“With Bielsa in charge I think he’s quite good at grounding his players and takes a lot of the pressure off them.

"But again as much as I love Leeds I look at the squad and think are they strong enough?”, he added.

Leeds will be aiming to put some serious pressure on league leaders Sheffield United, who are just two points away from them in the Championship table, with a win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
