Fabian Schar says that his mum, watching on from the stands, brought him good luck on Saturday as Newcastle United registered their first win of the Premier League season by beating Watford 1-0 at St. James' Park.
Schar came on for Jamaal Lascelles, who had to be taken off at half time due to a shoulder injury.
Newcastle took the lead in the 65th minute through a Ayoze Perez header, but had to dig deep and hold on to their slender advantage as Watford threw men forward late in the game to get the equaliser.
Schar revealed after the game that his mum was at the game and brought him much-needed luck after admitting that it was not possible to walk around the city unnoticed.

“No. Newcastle is crazy about football, the people know the players”, Schar told Swiss daily Blick when he was asked if he could walk undetected through the city after the win.
“But we are not under siege. It is still limited.
“She [my mum] obviously brought me luck”, the Swiss defender added.
Rafael Benitez’s side moved out of the relegation zone after the win, but are just a point above Cardiff City, who occupy 18th place in the Premier League table.
