Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has admitted that his team-mates should be given a lot of credit for helping him adapt to his new role in a deeper position this season.

Marcelo Bielsa has made use of Phillips’ ability to distribute the ball by deploying the 23-year old as a central defender at times this season, and the player has not disappointed.

Leeds have been consistent this season and have the second best defensive record so far in the Championship, despite using a whole new set-up compared to last season.

Phillips has pointed out that the team’s work ethic on and off the ball has helped him transition from a central midfielder to a centre-back this season when needed, and a deep-lying midfielder.

“I’m new to this position, so I want to do well”, Phillips said on LUTV.

“The lads help me a lot with their movement.

“I think we are one of the hardest working teams in the Championship and the way we work on and off the ball I think is incredible.

Leeds have managed to win their last five games in the Championship and will hope to make it six in a row when they take on Aston Villa this coming weekend.
