Former Rangers midfielder Nigel Spackman believes Steven Gerrard and the Gers are a good match and both have seen their profiles go up this term.

Gerrard was named the Rangers manager in May this year and has had a big impact at the club as the Light Blues hope to end their wait for the Scottish Premiership title.

Spackman feels more people are watching the Scottish league and Rangers in particular because of Gerrard’s arrival and that is a good thing for both the manager and the club.

“I think it’s not just raised the profile of Steven Gerrard and Rangers even higher, but also the whole Scottish game that people are interested in now”, Spackman said on a podcast on Rangers’ official website.

“So I think it’s done a fantastic PR job for the whole league, but for obviously Rangers and Steven, and we mustn’t forget Gary McAllister as well, who was at Liverpool with Steven and helped him in his younger years."

Rangers have been consistent under Gerrard’s stewardship this season and are a point behind Premiership leaders Celtic, who they face this weekend.

The former Liverpool midfielder has managed to instil his philosophy of attacking football and, with the help of some summer signings, Rangers have managed to close the gap on Celtic this season after finishing 12 points behind the Hoops last season.
