Eddie Gray believes that Marcelo Bielsa and his Leeds United players will have a higher ambition than just finishing in the top six this season.

Leeds have climbed up to the top of the Championship table on the back of a seven-game winning run that saw them win three points out of seemingly improbable situations.

Bielsa’s side have been one of the most consistent sides in the second tier of English football and are now heavy favourites to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds started the campaign with the ambition of finishing in the top six, but Gray believes given their current run of form, the Whites must be looking to achieve more than that.

He also feels to earn automatic promotion, Leeds will need to beat sides such as Hull City later today at Elland Road.

The Leeds legend said on LUTV: “The home form has been terrific and I have been saying you have got to win the majority of the home games if you want to be up there.

“We are up there and when you look at the league now, we are so many points clear of the seventh-placed side.

“You can lose a few and you would still be in with a great chance to finish in the top six, but I don’t think that’s the way the manager and the players are looking at it.

“They are at the top of the division and they’d want to stay there and that means picking points up against sides such as Hull City.”

Leeds have a 14-point lead over the teams outside the top six and have developed a six-point gap with third placed West Brom.
