Newcastle United linked defender Kenny Lala has not ruled out the possibility of leaving Strasbourg during the January transfer window.

Rafael Benitez wants to sign a left-back during the winter transfer window and Newcastle are keeping close tabs on the French top tier for solutions for their squad.

The Magpies are looking at a number of options in France for their new left-back and Strasbourg defender Lala has reportedly been on their radar this month.

And the 27-year-old stressed that he will not rule out the possibility of leaving the French club during the transfer window, despite being reasonably happy at Strasbourg.

Lala told French sports daily L’Equipe: “I don’t set any limit to my progress and in the same way I have not set a time on when to leave.

“I am not closed to anything and I have an agent who takes care of that. I focus on what happens on the pitch.

“But I don’t want to close the door so I don’t calculate any time.”

The defender is also not against the idea of signing a new contract with Strasbourg and believes it would be a reward for his development.

But insisted that would not change anything with regards to his ambition and he will not rule out leaving during the summer transfer window.

“With regards to my ambition, I can leave any time but even extending the contract is possible.

"I have blossomed at Strasbourg and new contract would be a reward, but it would not prevent me from having an ambition for the next summer transfer window.”
