Real Betis have entered the race to sign Newcastle United linked full-back Kenny Lala from Strasbourg this month.

Lala, who joined Strasbourg from Lens in the summer of 2017, has been the subject of interest from Newcastle, owing to his impressive start to the ongoing Ligue 1 season.

However, La Liga outfit Real Betis have now joined the race for the full-back, according to French radio station RMC Sport, meaning Newcastle have competition for Lala's signature.

The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and remains open to weighing up his options before deciding on whether to commit his future to Strasbourg.

And Betis are aiming to try and steal a march on the race for Lala’s signature by offering a fee between the region of €8m to 10m, in a bid to try and tempt Strasbourg to cash in on the player.

The 27-year-old, who is a product of the Paris Saint-Germain academy, has scored three goals and registered six assists from his 17 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season.

Despite the interest from a number of potential suitors from across Europe, Strasbourg head coach Thierry Laurey remains hopeful that Lala will stay this month and said on Telefoot on Sunday: "I think he will stay, yes."

Lala, who is a right-back by trade, has also featured as a left-back and further forward as a right midfielder during his senior career.
