Former Rangers and Dundee star Alex Rae has admitted the Gers’ winter-recruit Glenn Kamara has impressed him and is backing the midfielder to become a big asset at Ibrox next season.

The Gers have not been shy of delving into the transfer market this month after already doing loan deals for both Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe.

In addition to roping in two experienced campaigners from the Premier League, Rangers have also confirmed pre-contract agreements for both Jordan Jones and Kamara, from Kilmarnock and Dundee, respectively.

And Rae, who played and managed Dundee, has revealed he was impressed with Kamara when he saw the player during pre-season friendlies in Portugal and hailed his technical ability, that can only improve over the course of his development.

“I saw him playing in Portugal in a couple of pre-season friendlies and I was really impressed”, Rae told the club’s official website.

“The opposition they were up against, they were technically very good, but he was the one in the Dundee team who was actually able to manipulate the ball.

“I think that’s what Steven [Gerrard] has seen in him.

"He is a young player from whom there is plenty more development to come.”

The former Ger also backed Kamara to justify his signing by becoming a huge asset at Ibrox after he becomes familiar with his new surroundings and the weight of expectations next season.

“He will be a good addition once he gets his foot under the door here and he will learn from guys like Steven Davis and Ryan Jack”, he continued.

“Once he gets familiarised with this club, he could go on to become a big asset.”

Kamara, who joined Dundee from Arsenal in 2017, has notched up three assists from 18 appearances in all competitions so far this term.
