Having entered the final year of his contract with Liverpool, Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona, with Ronald Koeman keen to have the midfielder at his disposal.
Koeman has asked Barcelona to sign Wijnaldum, but no progress has yet been made on taking the Dutchman to the Camp Nou.
As Wijnaldum continues to be linked with Barcelona, former Blaugrana man Romeu has revealed his view that the Liverpool star does not suit the Catalan club’s style of play.
The Southampton midfielder went on to heap praise on countryman Thiago Alcantara, who has also been linked with a return to the Camp Nou, amidst reported interest from Liverpool as well.
“For me, Wijnaldum does not have a Barcelona style“, Romeu told Catalan radio network RAC1.
“But Thiago Alcantara is one of the best midfielders in Europe today.“
Despite suggestions of a departure in the current transfer window, Wijnaldum started in Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Leeds United last weekend.
It has been claimed that the Netherlands international held positive talks with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp upon returning from international duty and could still sign a new contract with the Premier League champions.
