The 28-year-old right-back spent last season on loan at Roma and does not appear to be in the plans of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard this term.

A return to Italy could be on the cards for Zappacosta, who has been linked with a loan move to Fiorentina in the ongoing transfer window.

Now Fiorentina’s league rivals Genoa have entered the race to land the full-back and are considering a move for the player, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia.

However, it remains to be seen if the Rossoblu are plotting a loan deal or a permanent move for the Chelsea out-of-favour star.

Zappacosta is claimed to have been approached with proposals to return to Serie A in the window multiple times and Genoa could join the list of clubs to offer the player an escape route from London.

Fiorentina are also keen to sign the right-back on loan and were said to have been in touch with the player’s agent.

With Zappacosta likely not having a future at Chelsea, it remains to be seen where he will ply his trade in the 2020/21 campaign.
