Arsenal are open to offers for the 32-year-old centre-back, who is in the final year of his contract and wants to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window.

Napoli are keen on the defender and Sokratis has even spoken with coach Gennaro Gattuso, who was his team-mate at AC Milan, about moving to the San Paolo before next month’s deadline.

But the Serie A giants have so far failed to resolve the departure of Kalidou Koulibaly and it has hampered their attempts to sign the Greek centre-back.

And according to Sportitalia, the club are now considering whether to sign Sokratis this year or snap him up on a free transfer next year.

Napoli could still make a move for him if they sell one of the other defenders from their squad but for the moment the negotiations have remained blocked.

The Serie A giants are considering waiting for a season before signing Sokratis on a free transfer next summer when he will be out of contract.

The defender has also reportedly tried to convince Arsenal to let him go on a free transfer in the ongoing window but it seems the Gunners are not willing to agree to such a deal.
