Sokratis is in his final year of contract at the Emirates Stadium and the defender is keen on leaving north London in the current transfer window.

Italian giants Napoli are keen on snapping up the defender and Sokratis has spoken with Gli Azzurri boss and former AC Milan team-mate Gennaro Gattuso about a potential reunion at the San Paolo.

The Serie A outfit have so far failed to resolve the departure of Kalidou Koulibaly and it has hampered their attempts to sign Sokratis.

And it has been claimed that Napoli are now considering whether to sign the Greek centre-back this year or secure his signature on a free transfer next year.

However, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Sokratis is not willing to wait indefinitely for the move to Napoli to happen.

The transfer deadline on 5th October is looming closer and the 32-year-old will consider other options if Napoli fail to make any significant headway.

Sokratis has also reportedly tried to convince Arsenal to terminate his contract and let him move to Naples for free in the ongoing window, but it seems the Gunners are not willing to agree to such a deal.
