Midfielders and forwards are currently at the top of Lions boss Dean Smith’s transfer wish list as he looks to reinforce his squad even further before the transfer window slams shut.

Nice midfielder Cyprien is on Smith’s radar with Aston Villa claimed to have submitted an initial bid for the player.

However, the true situation is unclear as Cyprien’s agents have denied receiving any proposal from Aston Villa and the 25-year-old is reportedly prioritising a move to Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Serie A side Sampdoria are also monitoring the player’s situation at Nice.

The Italians are keen to bolster their midfield and Cyprien has been marked as a potential recruit.

Aston Villa are yet to make any concrete progress over a switch for Cyprien with the Midlands club also chasing the signature of Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica.

Cyprien’s contract at Nice runs out next summer and the club are happy to let him move on if they are given an acceptable offer.
