With time running out in the transfer window, West Ham have stepped up on their chase for a new centre-back and are looking to land one before Monday’s deadline.
The Hammers are considering a number of defensive options and Fiorentina’s 22-year-old Serbian centre-half Milenkovic is one of them.
David Moyes’ side were claimed to have put in a bid of €30m for the Fiorentina star, but saw it knocked back by the Italian club.
However, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, the Irons are prepared to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer, as they look to land their defensive target.
West Ham are willing to up their initial offer of €30m to €35m in an attempt to convince Fiorentina to sell Milenkovic.
While the new offer will be closer to La Viola’s asking price of €40m, it remains to be seen if they will be tempted to accept the bid.
West Ham will be hopeful that the Serie A club will shake hands with them on the deal despite their offer being €5m less than their valuation.
