Leeds called off a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance on Thursday after the Frenchman failed to pass a medical with the club.
Marcelo Bielsa wants to sign a midfielder before Monday’s deadline and the club are considering a number of options, with Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell on their radar.
But Leeds have not moved their eyes away from Udinese’s Argentina international midfielder De Paul, who has been number one on their list.
And it has been claimed that the 26-year-old is the priority target for the Yorkshire giants, as the transfer window enters its final days.
Leeds have held talks with Udinese over signing him but they are unwilling to match the Italian club’s €40m asking price for the player.
De Paul is believed to be keen on the move to Leeds but for the moment no agreement is in place between Leeds and Udinese.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds decide to push the boat out and revive the negotiations for De Paul before Monday’s transfer deadline after the collapse of the Cuisance deal.
