David Moyes’ search for a centre-back has taken West Ham to France and the club are trying to sign Croatian defender Caleta-Car from Marseille.

The Hammers have tabled a bid of around €22m for the centre-back and are hopeful of concluding successful talks to take the defender to the London Stadium.

But the offer has been rejected and, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Marseille want a fee of around €30m before agreeing to let the defender leave.

However, the French giants are open to doing a deal and it has been claimed that they are already looking for replacements.

If West Ham return with a fresh offer of around €25m and add-ons, Marseille are likely to accept the bid.

Caleta-Car is also keen on the move to the Premier League and is waiting for West Ham to agree a fee with Marseille.

West Ham want a centre-back signed before Monday’s transfer deadline and are likely to return with a new bid for the Croatian soon.
