Mikel Arteta has been on keen on bringing at least one more midfielder into his Arsenal squad before the transfer window closes tonight.
Houssem Aouar has declared that he will not be leaving Lyon after flirting with an exit all summer and Thomas Partey is also set to stay in Spain with Arsenal not interested in paying his €50m buy-out clause.
Arsenal recently turned their attention towards Jorginho and have probed the possibility of snaring him away from Chelsea in the ongoing window.
But it has been claimed that interest is unlikely to materialise into anything concrete on deadline day.
Arsenal are not expected to make any progress towards signing him and Chelsea are not interested in letting the Italian join one of their big rivals.
The midfielder also started Chelsea’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, signalling their interest in keeping him.
Arsenal are expected to offload both Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira by the end of the day.
But it seems highly unlikely that they will sign a midfielder before the window slams shut.
