The midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar all summer but the club have been reluctant to meet his €50m buy-out clause.

Atletico Madrid have been insistent that they will not be negotiating a transfer fee for Thomas and are fully expecting to keep him at the club beyond today.

Arsenal’s interest in Houssem Aouar collapsed after the midfielder stated his desire to stay at Lyon and their interest in Chelsea’s Jorginho is a non-starter.

There are suggestions that Arsenal have made a fresh move for Thomas, but according to Sky Italia, no such approach has been made today.

Arsenal have agreed to let Lucas Torreira join Atletico Madrid, but that deal is hinging on the Spanish club moving out a player on deadline day.

But Atletico Madrid are not willing to part ways with Thomas and are not expecting any fresh moves for him on deadline day.

The only chance Arsenal have to sign him is to trigger the release clause in his contract and snare him away from Atletico Madrid.

But given their finances, the Gunners are unlikely to pay such a figure for Thomas.
